(Los Alamitos, CA) – Beginning June 1, 2020 The Youth Center, partnering with St. Isidore Historical Plaza, will be offering free childcare to working nurses, doctors, grocery workers, postal workers, police and other essential workers.

All parents of young children are dealing with a lot of challenges lately, with homeschooling, new work environments and trying to keep their kids happy, entertained and supervised. Essential workers are finding it especially difficult to provide the crucial services we all need, with kids out of school and daycares closed.

To give back to these vital community members, The Youth Center, The Plaza and Casa Youth Shelter have brought their resources together to offer free childcare for essential workers at the Plaza from June 1 through July 3, 2020, with hours from 7am to 7pm.

Children will enjoy fun and educational activities ranging from science experiments to arts & crafts and hands-on activities.

Childcare staff are busy training on protocol for conducting childcare during COVID-19 and every precaution will be taken to keep children happy and safe. “The COVID-19 accommodations they are implementing to keep our children safe are remarkable,” stated Julie Chad, RN. “That they are offering such amazing childcare for free at a time like this is a huge blessing in our lives right now! I don’t know what I do without them, I feel like I can breathe again,” she continued.

Lina Lumme, Executive Director of The Youth Center said, “We are fortunate to partner with The Plaza and Casa Youth Shelter during this difficult time to offer a much-needed service for our community. With the partnership, we are able to provide free, fun and educational summer activities for the children of our hard-working medical employees, police officers, firefighters and many other essential workers. We can’t thank The Plaza and Casa Youth Shelter enough for allowing us to use their space.”
