The Youth Center is conducting a shoe drive from August 10th through October 8th to raise funds for much needed safety and school supplies for local kids about to embark on a difficult school year.  The Youth Center will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected.  Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at The Youth Center (at 10909 Oak Street, Los Alamitos, CA 90720) from 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.

All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout a network of microenterprise partners in developing nations, helping impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa.

“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Jamie Harris, Program Director.  “Similar to many other non-profit organizations, The Youth Center has been hit hard since the start of the pandemic. With the cancellation of one of our largest fundraisers and summer programs, we are asking you, the community to help us during these trying times. With each donation, we will be one step closer to ensuring each child in our community will have PPE, hand sanitizer and school supplies to help them through what is sure to be a difficult school year,” added Harris.

By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to The Youth Center, community members can help local kids in need and the shoes they donate will be given a second chance to make a difference in people’s lives.
