Center Participants Get a Gift of Learning and Presents from KABC Television’s Spark of Love Campaign. |
This month the Youth Center participants had an opportunity to go on a free fieldtrip provided by KABC Television’s Spark of Love Campaign, with the Los Angeles County and City Firefighters. City of Los Alamitos provided transportation for this fun day of learning. Children ages 7 to 15 experienced The California Science Center, which will be receiving the last space shuttle and has the emphasis on encouraging children to have fun with math and science. After getting a free lunch at the Exposition Park, participants continued on their adventure by visiting The California Natural History Museum which has grown to have four stories of hands on experiences and have exhibits which range from human anatomy, mammals, insects, dinosaurs and many others. Before the day was over kids had an opportunity to visit The California African American Museum. To make this trip even more fun, City Firefighters provided Christmas Gifts to every child. “I am extremely pleased and proud of the services that the Youth Center offers children. I can think of no better gift we can give this amazing staff and the children who frequent that center,” said Wini Jackson, a children’s advocate who helped to organize this event for more than 800 children this holiday season. “It was a pure joy to see our participants experience something so incredibly fun. Their faces were lit up with excitement and happiness throughout the whole day. I am sure all the kids who went on this trip will remember it forever. Special thanks to Wini Jackson and City of Los Alamitos for helping us provide such a wonderful experience for these kids”, said Lina Lumme, Youth Center Executive Director. |
